A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
