Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
