Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his position following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
