Israelis have gathered across the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-initiated offensive on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident resulted in over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most fatal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel responded by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are seen as reliable by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our bloodthirsty enemies have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "realize all the goals of the war: the release of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will not create a threat to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed state remembrance events until mid-October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still took place across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was organized in the coastal city. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was observed around the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations met in the North African tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of indirect talks to examine the provisions of the proposal.

A high-ranking representative familiar with the talks said that an evening round of mediated discussions commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source said the morning session concluded without concrete outcomes, because of differences over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the arrangement.

He commented that the talks are "tough and have yet to achieve any real breakthrough," but noted that intermediaries are making efforts to reduce the differences between the two sides.

Critical Points in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The swap of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance deliveries
  • Future administration of the territory

Public Feeling

In the city's public square that day, young a woman - whose family member survived the attack on the outdoor event, where many attendees were lost their lives and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - explained: "No place appears as home now and until every captive return none of us will be secure."

"When we see everybody home again, we can breathe again. Then we can begin to heal," she added.

Outside the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem, people assembled to express their backing for the relatives of the abducted. Israel says 48 continue in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be surviving.

Protester a participant remarked: "We must do every compromise required for the abducted to return. But we really want assurances that we will be secure."

Research now regularly indicate that around the majority of Israeli citizens prefer the hostilities to end in return for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of the music event, those paying respects gathered to honor the dead.

From that location, the boom of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers said the severe Israeli attacks persisted.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"As the evening comes, the dread appears with it," relocated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli air strike last year, shared.

"My family are fearful of the air strikes. During nighttime we are lying together, clinging, notably my smallest child who places his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we check the reports to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be finalized and that the fighting will resume to us."

Medical Crisis

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had taken in the bodies of half dozen people by the afternoon, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the southern area.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of Khan Younis reported additional victims had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli forces while looking for help to the south region, health workers said.

The region's health ministry announced 25 of the {territ
