Los Angeles Faces Unprecedented Heat Only Days After Major Winter Storm.
In the wake of heavy downpours that led to inundation across sections of the city, Los Angeles is now grappling with unseasonably warm weather for late February.
Record-Shattering Temperatures
By Friday afternoon, the temperature reached ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city center, as reported by the National Weather Service. This exceeds the previous daily record for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was established in the previous year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on official graphics for the region.
Safety Alerts
Forecasters cautioned that Friday's weather posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for those at risk. Their recommendations included:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave kids or animals unattended in a hot car.
A Dramatic Reversal
This sharp rise in mercury arrives just after a intense winter storm that pummeled the state recently. That system unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to the mountains, causing evacuation orders for millions residents.
Tragically, the conditions also caused a massive avalanche in the Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Forecast Ahead
The outlook suggests cooler conditions is expected. The heat were expected to drop to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in central Los Angeles by late Friday.
Several cities that experienced 90°F were Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Additionally, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were expected to experience the high 80s.
In the coming days, central LA can see weather in the 80s, with mid-70s temperatures on tap for the start of March.
