President Trump Invites Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Members to the White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Call
The president stated he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Support
Community members gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to aid public safety in Washington DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that instructors desired. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the press. “She was kind, caring and always ready to assist people.”
Service plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Government Adjustments
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the government to suspend asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed the program that she planned to visit his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a MP with honor, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” he told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
