The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to create a tabletop RPG that explores the series' apocalyptic landscape. The project has been announced, with a funding drive scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026.
"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the tabletop, offering fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Initial offerings will include a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a GM screen, figurines, and various deluxe editions.
Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World
In this setting, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was released in NYC, sending the United States into turmoil. As the pandemic escalates, society crumbles and violent factions emerge, turning the city into a battlefield. To restore order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the agents come in.
Development on the RPG has been in progress for about several years, and it is reportedly complete. The upcoming crowdfunding effort will serve as a preorder system to reach a broader audience, specifically in North America. Manufacturing will start immediately following the campaign, with shipping projected for later in 2026.
A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System
An early look at the game's rules confirms it uses 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, promoting a streamlined and tactical style. Agents use skills or traits to assemble small dice pools, typically between one and five d10s.
- Instead of summing the total, participants select a single “resolution die” from the group.
- This die is then measured against a set challenge number.
- Rolling a perfect 10 grants additional bonuses, such as extra damage or enhanced aid.
Engagements Emphasize Tactical Placement and Awareness
Fights prioritize positioning and environmental awareness, reflecting the video games. Elements like cover, elevation, or visibility have a direct impact dice rolls. This system seems built to favor coordination and clever tactics over raw numbers.
A Novel Health System
The way health is managed introduces a compelling narrative layer. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their effectiveness by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At critical condition, an operative collapses, but is not knocked out.
- They may still move and take limited actions, emulating the "downed" state seen in video game shooters.
- Any player in this state must roll on a trauma table, potentially gaining lingering conditions like trauma or mobility-impairing wounds.
A Ready-to-Play Scenario
A publicly available Quickstart Guide will be released in the near future. It includes a pre-made introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players lead the hunt for a missing medical team and must thwart an attack by the notorious Rikers faction, who have taken over that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the complete product lineup will be detailed closer to the campaign launch.
