The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro looks stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.
The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.
But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when cast member the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.
The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
